I read coz I Want to (2)

Ubit read to Luthfa

Ubit read to Luthfa

Ubit (5 yo) “read” A Very Hungry Caterpillar to his sister, Luthfa. His limited reading skill has nothing to do with his passion to read, and of course, his love.

They were murmuring, playing, and giggling, while their mother was preparing dinner and cleaning up.

This young boy can teach a baby to read without being able to read himself.

I can read coz I want to

These weeks, we’ve got “Doraemon gank” in our house. Big brother’s room is their base. Before bedtime, four kids sit on the matress and read Doraemon. It’s the first way Ubit developed his reading skill. He wanted to join the gank, that’s why he try his best to read.

Now he is always eager to edit his soccer game. He wants to change the clubs, players, countries, stadiums, etc. That’s why he reads.

Ubit “the Builder”

they've been partners for two days

It’s been two days and Ubit (5) is still curious. A worker is mending the aisle in front of our house. First day, he kept asking almost the same questions to this fellow worker: “Ini jalannya lagi diapain? Kapan selesainya? Itu kenapa digali terus?—What are you doing to the street? When will it done? Why do you keep digging?”

Today, there is no question. He just keep wandering and “helping” Pak Oman, the worker, getting water, cleaning up mess, and digging holes using his mini spade. Later, his sister joined them carrying a spatula.

I cant stand taking pictures & writing :-)

I Can Write Anything!

I can write anything!

I can write anything!

Ubit prefers drawing than writing. Using handwriting, he’s only willing to write 3 words: “Ubit, Ali, Ibu.” Trying to save his drawings in the computer, he found out that writing on the keyboard is also fun. This morning, he asked me to print his “typing work” and announce to everybody in the house: I can write anything !

Shapes

One of Ubit’s hobbies is playing his scissors. Today we’ve learned shapes, colour, and of course, scissors! It’s simple: cut the shapes and stick them to the right place.

Cooking Class: Kopyor

Kopyor Ice berjamaah :-)

One of Dad’s favourite menus for breaking fasting is Kopyor Ice. It’s made from coconut milk, coconut water, seaweed powder, sugar, and syrup.

Ubit & the gank are eager to be a group of chefs. Much laughter, many mistakes, messy. We don’t have to tell Dad how many times our spoons and spatulas sank and lifted barehanded. This will be the most delicious one, though.

Making Sewing Cards

Ubit, Ali (his brother,8), and Aunt Ina are making sewing cards.  We stick pictures on used thick papers, make holes, and sew…sew…

It keeps everybody busy for more than 2 hours that Ramadhan fasting becomes full of joy, and of course, full of papers and glue. Ubit loves playing his scissors and the cutting is yet perfect. We learn patience and have fun!

Why is Fire Hot?

Coming out from the bathroom, Ubit asked in all of sudden: “Ibu, Ibu, kenapa sih, api bisa panas?” (Mom, why is fire hot?).

“Ummm….. I don’t know! Let’s find out.”

I then found the answer. A serious answer, that even I could not understand it well. I kept searching while struggling to explain the complicated chemical reaction to Ubit. My son stared at me and nodded. However, I knew for sure that he actually didn’t care. As for the heat produced by fire, today he was just curious. Whatever the elaboration was by no means necessary.

Well, for the 5 yo, curiosity is more than enough.

More and Less

We learned More and Less using MPE Primary 1a. To explain the symbols (<, >, and =) I used funny terms such as say  “Aaaa” happily for more and “Uuuu” sadly for less.

After giggling and interesting practice, Ubit understood the concept and did the workbook eagerly.  He even asked me to “test” him and made his own test.

We play then learn.

Ilusi Mata yang Luar Biasa

It’s been a year, and they’re still our favourite books. My kids always find something new, interesting, and challenging in them. To me, exploring them warn me that eyes can be so deceiving.
